Dr Cristian Gonzalez

Dr Cristian Gonzalez is an Economist, Statistician and Econometrician, with over 15 years of experience, specialising in the quantitative and qualitative valuation of roads and infrastructure programmes and projects.
Cristian was Director of Statistics and Data at the International Road Federation (IRF), Geneva, a position he held between 2011 to 2018, and he collected, analysed and provided data to the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Investment Bank (EIB), academia and the World Bank for the World Development Report. Leading business consulting and investment firms and public institutions in the fields of statistics, econometrics and finance use the tailored data.
Cristian prepared and published IRF’s (2011-2018) annual flagship publication, the IRF World Road Statistics. The work involved data collection, validation, aggregation and dissemination of official data and indicators for over 205 countries sourced from primary sources of statistics (National Statistics Offices, Road Authorities and Ministries) in key specific subjects: road networks, road traffic, road accidents, road expenditures and revenues, energy consumption, multimodal transport on freight and passengers, vehicle fleets and vehicles industry.
Cristian participated in several activities related to road financing, road safety, transport mobility, CO2 emissions and road statistics, such as:

Cristian’s highly acclaimed work has earned him several accolades, such as one for the special IRF World Road Statistics 50th Anniversary edition in 2013 (Millenium data 2000-2011). Michelin sponsored the publication and the quality of the data was endorsed by the following international institutions: The World Bank Group; United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE); OECD/International Transport Forum (ITF); American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO); Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) Group; International Energy Agency (IEA); International Road Transport Union (IRU); Indian Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH); Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC); Roads Australia; United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC).
Cristian's main research areas include urban & rural planning, roads and transport, concessions, Public and Private Partnership, water and sanitation and socially responsible investing in both developed and developing countries.
Cristian is passionate about scientific research and its application, using validated data, to common issues on public infrastructure, environmental benefits, user’s well-being and social and private investments returns.
